About this Hybrid Strain
NYC Diesel is an award-winning sativa-dominant hybrid cannabis strain that produces a potent, sweet citrusy flavor that many describe as similar to grapefruit with undertones of diesel. NYC Diesel is the seedling of three different strains.
It’s won nine different Cannabis Cup awards for its potent and delicious qualities, though not all were first place wins. Despite this, it’s a definite strain connoisseurs say they enjoy as it has become popular for its scent, flavor, and effects.
Its THC content averages at 15% and has been known to produce up to 22% in some crops. NYC Diesel’s high induces creativity, energizes the consumer, helps fabricate insight, and gives the body a slight numbing effect. For experienced users, the sativa dominance will help eliminate fatigue and is great for a “wake and bake”. For novice consumers, this strain may cause laziness or sleepiness once the cerebral effects wear off. It’s also known to boost appetite, so be ready for the munchies.
Negative side-effects include the usual cotton mouth and dry eyes, but paranoia and dizziness can become present if consumed inappropriately.
Growing time is longer than the norm, taking up to 10 weeks and normally flowering in early November.

Its father is a cross between the sativa Hawaiian and indica Afghani while its mother is the sativa Sour Diesel. However, some claim that it’s a cross between a Mexican sativa and Afghani.

Bred by Soma Seeds, the NYC Diesel strain is a classic strain that has gained a great of popularity over the years. It is known for its gassy aroma and cerebral effects.
NYC Diesel Strain: Sour Diesel X (Afghani X Hawaiian)
I came across this batch of the NYC Diesel strain on my recent trip to SFVDM in Van Nuys, CA. Having experienced this strain in the past, I was happy to see that they had a nice bath of it on hand.
“The genetics of the NYC Diesel strain are believed to be a Sativa-dominant mix of Sour Diesel, Afghani, and Hawaiian.”
The genetics of the NYC Diesel strain are believed to be a Sativa-dominant mix of Sour Diesel, Afghani, and Hawaiian. With that in mind, I expected the NYC Diesel strain to affect my head much more than my body.
As the story goes, the NYC Diesel strain originates from a bagseed that Soma came across while living in New York. Many people will say that the seed was a phenotype of Sour Diesel, but it’s possible that it was actually the original Diesel strain or another strain with a similar terpene profile.
With that being said, Soma is rumored to have crossed this bagseed with Shantibaba‘s popular Afghani X Hawaiian male plant.
How Might The NYC Diesel Strain Affect Me?
When I wake up from a deep sleep the first thing I want to do is grab the Toro and medicate with some sort of wake and bake strain — preferably a Sativa to get my mind right for the day.
The NYC Diesel strain has been the go-to morning strain for me the past few days. This batch smells just like the Sour Diesel strain, but with more of a sugary sweetness to it. The vapor is smooth, and leaves a pungent gassy after-taste that is similar to that of cookies.
“I found the NYC Diesel strain to produce an energetic high that would be great for exploring a city or getting active in any way.”
I found the NYC Diesel strain to produce an energetic high that would be great for exploring a city or getting active in any way. It seems to speed up the brain and make it race with ideas, making it the perfect choice for artists looking to get their creative juices flowing.
After medicating with the NYC Diesel, I would expect it to be a solid choice for patients in need of some serious stress relief. This strain can be stoney – it may be best reserved for weekends or vacations when you don’t have much physical work to do.
